Process-led paintings 2005

From a process painting background, these paintings using gloss paint on canvas explore the application of paint, the surface and tactility of the paint as an element that is one together with the canvas to become an intrinsic piece. Various methodologies are employed to created the painting from painting in one or multiple sessions, allowing densities of paints to react and to move and to inform the painting. My input into the painting varies as to how much control and restraint is used in the application, how much paint is on the canvas, where to stop with applying the paint. The skill in the painting lies in part, with experience and dictating the completion point of paint application or of the end point of the painting. In many cases, the painting will determine the end result and not just my intervention.
