| I paint in Seductive, edible colours, sumptuous
textures and skins, asking that the viewer reach out and touch something
that it is usually prohibited. My paintings exploit the contrast between
the desire to touch the painting and the knowledge that one must not. As
with all beautiful things, we want what we cannot touch. I want painting to be beautiful. To seduce the eye over a surface layered with colours that enhance, collide and smother one another. I try to control the beauty but it is compromised as the paint takes over. Colours, surfaces and panels of paint vibrate against each other, creating a compelling tension. The somewhat random process of paint application is fundamental to this. I try to set up these contrasts - the application of the paint is part of the beauty. What is accidental, and what is not? |
